Thailand was the first stop on my sabbatical journey, a symbolic break from the corporate grind and a return to what truly lights me up. I started with a one-week visit to the Bikram Yoga Teacher Training—just as a guest, soaking in the energy. Every evening I took Bikram’s class, and even though I’ve practiced with him before, it never stops being surreal to learn from the source himself. He’s a character, no doubt—raw, unfiltered, full of fire—but at the same time, an inspiring powerhouse of energy. At his age, the way he teaches, moves, and leads a room is something else. Yes, the occasional “your fat ass” comment can make you blink, but honestly, I left every class feeling stronger, clearer, and totally recharged.
The resort was a dream—right on the beach, where I could practice, rest, and let my body and mind settle into island rhythm. It really was the dream life: yoga with an ocean breeze, sunshine, and a moment to just be.
From there, I traveled to Phuket for a few days and taught at Kata Hot Yoga. I’d been to Phuket before, and yes—it’s busy, a little chaotic, and very touristy. If you’re chasing the “authentic Thailand,” this might not be it. But the studio itself is great, the heat is solid, and I had a lovely time both practicing and teaching. One class turned into a beautiful exchange of energy with an easygoing, open community. Just don’t expect anything to start on time—this is island life after all, and time here flows differently. Which, honestly, is part of the charm.
Oh—and I squeezed in a boat trip to that famous bay where they filmed The Beach. Classic tourist move, I know—but it was stunning. Thailand gave me exactly what I needed to kick off this new chapter: warmth, perspective, and a deep dive back into my practice.
