Cape Town Vibes: business, yoga and a bit of a belly bug - March, 2025

In March, I traveled to Cape Town on a business trip for my corporate job—yes, I wear both hats. I stayed at the Westin Hotel, which I highly recommend. Great location, professional service, and the perfect balance of business and comfort.

I had a free afternoon when I arrived, so I jumped into a walking tour of the old city. Now, we all know those “free tours” aren’t really free—but this one was absolutely worth the tip. Our guide was energetic, full of stories, and brought the streets to life. We strolled through Cape Town’s historic heart, took great photos, and he even treated us to some local sweets—a small gesture that made a big impression.

And of course, I had to find a hot yoga class. I visited Yoga Loft, located in a cool, hipster part of town. The entrance space was bright and open, with a calm vibe and friendly staff. The hot room itself is downstairs—a bit dark, hot, and musically charged. It wasn’t the traditional 90-minute Bikram class—instead, they offer a 60-minute version with music and posture variations. So if you’re a strict 26 & 2 purist, this might not be your vibe. But if you’re open to flowing with a more relaxed format, it’s a great place to move, sweat, and explore.

Evenings were pure joy. I explored Cape Town’s restaurant scene, which honestly blew me away—some of the best food I’ve ever had. The seafood is unforgettable—try the oysters, seriously. And the famous local dessert? That would be malva pudding—warm, sweet, and totally addictive. Rooftop bars with sunset views, African dancing performances, and a visit to a local school added such rich texture to the trip. There’s a rhythm in Cape Town that’s hard to describe—you just have to feel it.

Now, real talk: the only downside? The belly bug.

Yep. After returning home, I was down for the count—two full weeks of stomach misery. And I wasn’t alone. Pretty much our whole team got hit. Call it a travel tax, maybe.

Would I go back? Absolutely. Cape Town is a mix of business, beauty, and culture—with just enough spice to keep it interesting.
