I landed in Sydney on Christmas Day—well, technically, I was in the air on Christmas Eve, sipping wine, nibbling cheese, watching Barbie (don’t. just don’t)—and surprisingly, it felt kind of magical. A quiet kind of celebration. On the 25th, I rolled out my mat at the Bikram Yoga Studio in the city and wow, what a way to start a holiday. Huge room, packed with energy, buzzing community—it was the perfect welcome.
That day, I met up with my Japanese friend Joy (yes, perfect name for the day). We spent Christmas walking the city together with two other yoga teachers, exploring the sights, snapping pics by the Opera House, and even visiting the zoo—koalas and kangaroos included, obviously.
Over the next days, I taught at Set2Yoga—a charming studio set up in what used to be an apartment. The owner is a powerhouse of creativity and warmth. Proof that if you really want to build something, you’ll find a way. I taught a few classes there and loved the cozy vibes and the deep connection with the students.
Joy became my Sydney sidekick. He showed me around, and on my last day, I joined his class at the other yoga and wellness studio where he teaches. A classic Bikram session with heart and sweat. After class, we grabbed food, drinks, and wrapped up my stay with laughter and sunshine.
Sydney gave me a glimpse of something I didn’t expect—space, energy, ocean breezes, and a yoga community that feels alive. It stirred something in me. Maybe one day, a studio by the beach? Who knows. But Sydney, you planted a seed.
