When I booked a short trip to the Atacama Desert in Chile, I didn’t have huge expectations. I mean… a desert? I was picturing endless sand, maybe some cacti, dry heat, and that’s about it. But Atacama? It completely surprised me—in the best possible way.

From the moment I arrived, I felt like I’d landed on another planet. The place where I stayed was peaceful and stripped down—just sand, small houses, and silence. Absolute silence. But beyond that simplicity, the landscapes were anything but empty. On my first tour, I found myself floating in surreal, salt-rich blue lagoons—so still and magical.

Every day brought a new surprise: salt rock valleys that looked like they belonged on Mars, powerful sunsets painting the sky over the Moon Valley, and early morning hikes through steaming geysers that made me forget I was even on Earth. One of the most magical experiences was waking up in the middle of the night to drive out to the El Tatio geysers. Freezing cold, pitch dark… and then suddenly, sunrise over steaming earth. It was hauntingly beautiful.

What struck me most was how alive the desert felt. It’s not just sand—it’s color, movement, texture, silence, and stillness all at once. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel small in the best way.

Atacama wasn’t on the top of my list before—but now, I can’t wait to go back. There’s so much more to explore, and I already know one trip wasn’t enough.
